456. Can I use Salt with a SpaGuts or Balboa brand Spa Controllers?

Any type of Salt, including Epsom Salt, are corrosive to spa heater elements and will cause them to wear out quicker. So don't use any type of salt in the spa water without consulting with the spa equipment manufacturer. Also avoid using spa fragrances that have any type of salt in them. Titanium heater elements are the only ones that can withstand salt. Keep in mind that most heater metal tubes (a.k.a. heater housing or heater manifold) are made of stainless steel, but will corode after a period of use in salt water. For a complete corrosion protection, use a Titanium heater metal tube with titanium heater element. NOTE: Damages to regular heater elements and heater housings including corrossion, chemical build-up, lime and calcium build-up (form of white "scale" coating), physical abuse, burnt outs and freeze damage are NOT covered under warranty. Titanium Elements and Heaters (Titanium Components Only) warranted against manufacturing defects from date of purchase for 24 months with 60 months corrossion protection.
