547. Support: Smoke coming from inside a Balboa or SpaGuts VS Series Spa Controller.

You have reported that there is smoke coming from inside the Balboa or SpaGuts VS-Series Spa Controller. Please check the following to troubleshoot: - Exactly where is the smoke coming from inside the controller box? You'll need to open up the controller cover and provide specific location on the circuit board. There is a wiring diagram on the inside cover of the controller box that specify locations on the circuit board. - Where is the pump 1 cord connected on the circuit board? Please provide connector location (ex. J23). What is the actual voltage rating for pump 1 motor? You can find this information directly off the pump motor label. The voltage of the motor may not be the same voltage as the incoming power supply. Please check. - (If installed) Where is the pump 2 cord connected on the circuit board? What is the actual voltage rating for pump 2 motor? - (If installed) Where is the blower cord connected on the circuit board? What is the actual voltage rating for the blower? - Make sure ALL incoming power wires are properly connected to the power terminal block on the circuit board, and all screws are tighten. None of the wires should move when wiggling on them. If any wire moves, be sure to tighten the screw down. Loose wire connections will cause an overheat on the wire(s) and may damage both the wire and the circuit board. - Is there a small circulation pump connected to the circuit board? If so, which connector location, and what is the actual voltage rating for the circulation pump motor? If a small circulation pump is installed, what is the amp rating of the circulation pump, and what size plumbing does it connect to? Please provide us with the above information, so we can help you correct the problem. Note that whenever you see smoke, you must shut down the power to the spa right away and notify tech support.
